Greek Yogurt

Who doesn't love Greek Yogurt? The thick super creamy yogurt is something I live for, especially with honey. A few friends decided to make some with their very own home made yogurt, strain it and make Greek yogurt. Bottom line, buy it. It was good but for a 27 oz container yields a scant cup of Greek yogurt in a little over 2 hours. The Greeks would have scoffed at our technique, I'm sure.

Nirmala, you can buy plain, whole milk yogurt, place it a strainer with a pot underneath to catch the water and leave it in the fridge overnight.

No labour involved and you keep some money in your pocket.

Nirmala, this is good to know -- I've thought about trying a homemade Greek yogurt option, but I may hold off, based on this experience.

peter M, does your technique work with nonfat yogurt, too, or do you have to use the whole milk kind?

I can't find Greek yogurt here, so I have contemplated trying to make my own!

I recently tried Greek yogurt for the first time and it was so good! Nice and creamy and tangy.
I should try making my own. I made my own ricotta, and that went well.
